Day's End

Day's End
5"x7"
Oil and Cold Wax on Gessoed Watercolor Paper
Sold

OK, you may have noticed that this is one of my favorite color combinations.  It just makes me happy.  I wanted today to go smoothly because I am getting back into some small art on gessoed paper.  As of now, I am not committing to painting daily but want to do 3 a week.  So, starting out with my favorite colors is a way to jump start this phase of small paintings.  As I was painting, I was imagining the brilliant sky covering the whole landscape with color.  I like it!

Day's End is available at The Gallery at Round Top.

Southwest

Southwest
32"x16"
Oil and Cold Wax on Panels
Sold

I know a lot of artists refer to their paintings as their children.  I am no exception.  Southwest is one of them.

I have always felt that it was my breakthrough painting when I was rather new to oil and cold wax.  It was my first multiple panel painting.  It taught me that magical things can happen on different panels so that they give me the feeling that they need to be put together and made into one painting.

Southwest has been in numerous shows over the last year.  When it was away, I worried about it.  Now, it has moved to its forever home with a wonderful friend and art guide.  I know it will be happy there.

Betsy Greene's Golden River

Betsy Greene's Golden River
30"x30"
Oil and Cold Wax on 2" Cradled Ampersand Panel
$1900

This painting is named in honor of my friend, Betsy Greene.  Actually, it was her friend, Lise, and she that named it Golden River.  Then I changed it to Betsy Greene's Golden River.

That is quite a long story about how this painting was named but it tells a story about how just a different viewpoint can totally change what we see things.  Originally, this painting was turned 180 degrees.  It was nothing.  Betsy and Lise turned it and saw a Golden River.  Now, it is easy to see the forest in the distance and bushes on the shoreline.  There is a story of sunset on the shore of Golden River.

Cottonwoods at White Place

Cottonwoods at White Place
11"x14"
Oil and Cold Wax on Ampersand Encausticbord
$250 starting bid

Cottonwoods at White Place is another painting in my Ghost Ranch Series.  Everyone that knows me knows that I am a color geek/nerd.  I am amazed that I have found a predominance of neutral colors in my paintings to be wonderful.  I have taken watercolor workshops with the hope of learning to work in neutrals and left them totally frustrated.  It took going to White Place to figure it out.  Once again, I had to do it on my own.  There are just some things that the solitude of working on your own is for the best.

As with yesterday's painting, Cottonwoods at White Place will be in the silent auction supporting ACT.  The auction proceeds go to support arts programs in the schools around Fayetteville Texas.  Please go to their web site for more information on the auction and gala on March 8, 2014.

Dancing With Colors

Dancing With Colors
14"x11"
Oil and Cold Wax on Ampersand Encausticbord
$250 starting bid

Dancing With Colors is a painting from my Ghost Ranch Series.  The vibrant turquoise and red just make me think of New Mexico. When I see them, I think of jewelry and sunsets and the wonderful time I have had there.

Dancing With Colors will be in a silent auction supporting Artists Changing Tomorrow (ACT) International Exhibition 2014.  Every 2 years, Arts for Rural Texas hosts a gala and silent auction to support arts programs in the schools around Fayetteville Texas.  Artist from around the world donate their art to the auction.  We know the importance of supporting the arts  because rural Texas schools do not usually have the budget for it.  So, please, check out their web site for more information on the auction.   http://www.act4art.com/ACT2014.html

Collage of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

30 in 30 Collage

It is great to see all 30 paintings in an organized group.  Silly me would have loved to see them in their exact order but I wasted enough time to just get them sort of organized by sizes.  This has been a wonderful experience.  It has proven to me that you never know what you can do until you try.
