Blue Planet Study #2 (Blue Planet Series)

Blue Planet Study #2 (Blue Planet Series)
12"x4"
Oil on cradled panel
Sold

The series continues.  Somewhere along the way, I may be changing the titles to be more descriptive. Until I see them all together, dates will have to do.

Last Saturday was my presentation to the Dallas Handweavers and Spinners Guild.  I really enjoyed meeting everyone.  I hope I inspired them to look for different sources for inspiration for their art.  Where I look at weavings and pottery for a lot of my inspiration, I hope they may start looking at paintings and other mediums for theirs.  Thank to Anne Cameron for asking me to talk to the Guild.

This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery.  Check it out in person!

I still surprise myself when I have a painting that is so organic.  I am a very geometric person.  I love the straight lines of architecture.  I like things lined up on the shelves in my pantry.  Yes, I do sneak some hard lines in an organic painting.  I love the contrast and I hope you do, too.

This painting is now hanging at Dutch Art Gallery.  Go by and check it out in person!

Everyone is welcome!

The Point for Arts and Education at CC Young Center

From the Guild's Newsletter:
Doris is a former weaver who has moved her work into painting.  She will be discussing not only her application of weaving to her current work, but also how color impacts the planning and execution of her art.  She will be giving us a virtual tour of her work, and also will have some small pieces with her to display.  See her bio here in the newsletter.  Plan to come and bring a friend!

MAY MEETING - Doris Vasek in Color & Art
Artist’s Statement ---  Doris Vasek
My paintings are all about the color.
I started painting in watercolor in 2005.  It was the cleanness of their colors that attracted me.  It turned out to be an easy transition from hand dyeing my own yarn for weaving, fiber for spinning or fabric for quilting to my move to watercolors.  My paintings have always been representational.  No matter what I paint in watercolors, it is the color that first draws me to the image.
Flash forward to 2013 and see my interpretation of color into my oil and cold wax mixed media paintings.  They are not representational but once again, the intrigue of color has pulled me in this new direction.  The majority of colors in my paintings will probably never be repeated because of the methods I use in painting.  It is an additive, subtractive and manipulative method that creates unique colors each time. It is sort of alchemy.  It is still about the color.
Everyone will see something in these nonrepresentational paintings.  I hope you enjoy creating you own imaginative ideas about my oil and wax paintings.  Stop and see if you find little magical spots of color, too.
(Artwork is “Dancing Colors” by Doris Vasek).
Welcome!

6"x6"
Oil on Ampersand Panel
$75

This was my 4th demo at Dutch Art Gallery.  Someone ask me how I get the little marks in the lower right corner.  I have been ask that before and I am sure they always hate my answer.  "They just happen and they make me very happy."  At times, I purposefully try to make them and nothing happens.  The next time, they unexpectedly appear.  Once again, it is what artists call Happy Accidents.  I love Happy Accidents!

This was my third demo painting.  By then, I was really getting in the rhythm of being able to paint and talk at the same time.  I like it!

This is another of my demo paintings.  I think I am still recovering from the day at Dutch Art Gallery.   Basking in the fun I had there.  As an artist that works alone in my studio, it is a challenge for me paint and talk at the same time.  This painting evolved from applying several layers of paint and then cutting down into them to expose lower layers.  Then I did some stamping with a fine mesh.  That is something that I seldom do and need to remember it more.  I love the positive and negative look of the stampings.

This painting will be shipped matted in white, outside dimension 8x8.  It will be sealed with Golden Archival Satin Varnish.

For the next few days, I will be posting paintings that I did during my demo at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  I had a wonderful day there.  Lots of folks stopped by.  Some because they knew I was there and others came in when they saw the cute sign that the DAG ladies had put outside of the gallery.  One man came in when he saw the word "abstract."

So, the next time you are out and about, go check out Dutch Art Gallery.  I have 12 paintings there now.

Thank you Pam, Gwen and Rachael!  I had a great day!

Rockwall Art League Demo

Somersaults #1
12"x12"

Somersaults #2
12"x12"

I did it!  My first oil and cold wax demo.  The Rockwall Art League ask me to demo for the group for their April meeting.  The turn out was amazing!!

I had the idea that I would start a new painting (Somersaults #2) at the beginning of the demo, let it sit and dry a little while I talked about the materials and tools.  Then, I would go back to it and do a little more on it.  To close out the demo, I wanted switch out and work on the painting (Somersaults #1) I had started at home and add a few finishing touches to it.

As the saying goes - The best laid plans…. You know how it goes.  The top part of Somersaults #2 turned PINK.  I knew I had to let it dry before going back into it.  So, I told the group that it was not ruined and promised to finish it.

So, here are Somersaults #1 and #2.  Purposefully, not identical but still a pair. In the spirit of the pink, I left tiny bits showing, too.

I am still considering if they will be framed individually or  bolted together or even if they will be vertical or horizontal.  I need to live with them for a while.

Thanks again RAL!
