Distant is the view I have from my studio. Yes, I live on a hill and I used my artistic license to leave out everything in the foreground. It started out as an a totally non-representational abstract. It lingered in my studio for months. There were pieces of color and shapes that I had fallen in love with. They were causing me to be stuck. One day, I turned it 180 degrees. It was suddenly more landscape-like and just demanded big puffy clouds rising up in the air.  

Sometime, a painting just tells us what to do with it.

Not often do I post a painting that is not for sale.  I consider this one too experimental to sell at this point.  It started out really crappy; so, I poured Gamsol on it and just worked it with every tool on my table.  When it dried, it had a lovely soft, satin, almost waxed looking surface.  Then I added marks using oil pastel.  

I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has used this process before.  What was your outcome?  Will it be archival if I seal it with archival varnish?  Will it be too fugitive?

One more in the color pallet I have been using the last week.  I never would have thought I could use so much yellow.  As I always say, there is no such thing as a bad color.  I just have to find a way to use it.  It has to play nice with those around it.

This was my 4th demo at Dutch Art Gallery.  Someone ask me how I get the little marks in the lower right corner.  I have been ask that before and I am sure they always hate my answer.  "They just happen and they make me very happy."  At times, I purposefully try to make them and nothing happens.  The next time, they unexpectedly appear.  Once again, it is what artists call Happy Accidents.  I love Happy Accidents!

This is another of my demo paintings.  I think I am still recovering from the day at Dutch Art Gallery.   Basking in the fun I had there.  As an artist that works alone in my studio, it is a challenge for me paint and talk at the same time.  This painting evolved from applying several layers of paint and then cutting down into them to expose lower layers.  Then I did some stamping with a fine mesh.  That is something that I seldom do and need to remember it more.  I love the positive and negative look of the stampings.

For the next few days, I will be posting paintings that I did during my demo at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  I had a wonderful day there.  Lots of folks stopped by.  Some because they knew I was there and others came in when they saw the cute sign that the DAG ladies had put outside of the gallery.  One man came in when he saw the word "abstract."

The soft smudginess of the colors just needs something.  Hmmm...How about a hard edged contrast of a totally different color?  I have really been working on not having so many hard edges in my paintings.  Well, not today!  That was my thought process this morning.

Ok, I have been listening to Don Henley and wondering about a title for this painting.  I found myself dancing around in my studio.  It was a dance of joy because I really enjoyed painting today.  There are a lot of sweet little jewels in this painting that a photograph will never show.  You will just have to believe me.  So, I have decided to borrow from Don's song "All She Wants to Do is Dance." 

This painting is on a 3/4" cradled Ampersand panel.  It is ready for hanging just as it is or will be wonderful in a floater frame.

I was feeling really experimental today.  It started looking like I was laying on my stomach in the grasses.  Maybe it was my subconscious talking to me because I have been looking at the fountain grass in my yard now that it is winter.   Everybody says grasses are just as interesting in the winter as they are in the summer.  I agree.

I am really perplexed by this painting.  When I look at it I feel like it is almost devoid of color.  I know that cannot be the case.  I guess that happens because it is almost like a sepia photograph.  I definitely get a southwest vibe from the colors.  I feel like I am in an old western movie.

I love it when I start seeing things in an abstract.  Today, I started seeing 2 things.  A stormy landscape on the the left and a sunny scene on the right.  As we say in Texas, wait a few minutes and the weather will change.  Maybe for an artist, it is wait a few strokes....

Wow, I did an earth tone painting.  This is certainly not my usual but I like it.  There really is not a "bad" color.  I had no idea where this would go because I started out with a Chinese Orange underpainting that I allowed to dry.  Different colors and a different process.  Too bad you cannot hold it right in front of your nose to see the tiny little patterns and colors that I can see.
