Colors morph and move around today.  And only bits of pure color remain.  Once again, I had to remind myself that neutrals are what make the pure colors shine and glow.

I am happy.....

Untitled November 20

Untitled November 20
aka Fiery Sunset

Oil on Terra Skin

Often, I talk about my inspiration for a painting.  Yesterday, it was a sunset.  Today, it may look like another sunset really.  Well, not in the beginning for this one.  This painting was inspired by a rug but then, it morphed into a fiery sunset.  The drama of these colors against a white mat is just amazing.  This is a painting that may have to "grow up" into a larger one.

I am happy.....

Reflecting on the Day

Reflecting on the Day
6"x8"
Oil and Cold Wax on Gessoed Watercolor Paper
mounted on Ampersand panel
$95

Quite often, at the end of the day, when I am closing the blinds in my studio, I take one last look across the lake.  I love seeing "what is going on" at that time of the day on the lake.  I cannot tell you if I have ever seen this exact scene or if it has ever happened but when it appeared in this painting, I knew it was time to stop painting.

On the technical side, this is the same color palette I have been working with lately.  It may not seem that way but those colors make a really lovely palette mud.  I just could not waste it.

I still see shapes that look inserted into the body of the painting.  Almost like a painting within a painting.

I see pieces in this painting.  Lots of pieces and shapes are overlapping.  And of course, I am still greatly entertained by the color palette I have been working with for weeks.

I am so happy that I am now totally comfortable working on Terra Skin.  It was a learning process.  Some things I tried were absolute failures.  It just took some time but the last 6 weeks have been great.  I never thought I would like the smooth surface.  That idea is gone.  This surface lets the colors glow.

I am happy...

Holiday Show at The Gallery at Round Top

This is a group of paintings that are going to The Gallery at Round Top in Round Top Texas.  The show hangs now through December.  Round Top is famous for the antique fair in the spring and fall but it is an all year long art escape.  If you are ever in central Texas you should go there.

In conjunction with the Christmas on the Square, the gallery has a Holiday Open House is on December 6.   Who knows…Santa may be strolling around there, too.

Untitled October 31st's Tryout

I may really like a painting when the tape is removed.  But adding a mat and frame is even more exciting.  The other day, I told someone that it is like a little black dress and pearls for a painting.  The painting is truly ready to be presented to the world.

The image above is just an idea of what the Little Jewel Series paintings will look like framed.  I am using one of my beat-up studio frames with everything just laying in it and without glass.  It really sparkles with glass but the photo looked like one big reflection.  So, use your imagination to add the sparkle to October 31.

Whoohoo!!!!  I sure never thought I could or would have 100 blog posts when I started this in January. Thank you, Kathy, for talking me into doing the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge that started it all.  There have been a few posts along the way that were about gallery or exhibition stuff but, by far, the most posts have been paintings I have done since the blog started in January.  What a year!  And I still have 2 months to go.  Oh, boy, more time to add to the 2014 painting counter.

And now, something about today's painting.  That is what this blog is supposed to be all about.  Yes, I did go back to my comfort zone…a horizontally formatted painting.  It started with a half Chinese Orange and half Indigo painting.  That was really an overload.  Mix in a little white to calm it down and  I like it.

That makes 14 4'x4" paintings using the color palette I started using during the last week of the September 30 in 30.  Wow, I didn't think it would still be working for me.

I am happy…..
